The 2012 Dreams To Fame edition of the country’s most popular and long running live performance talent exhibition for young untrained performers in the country is here starting this coming Saturday of the 4th of August at Amakhosi Cultural Center.  The event series will run every weekend for 20 weeks till the 15th of December. Finalists and winners get the Amakhosi Golden Awards presented by the sitting mayor of Bulawayo each year as a new tradition. Mayor Thaba Moyo kick started this tradition when he capped the finalists and winners of 2011.

“I would like to thank the Culture Fund of Zimbabwe Trust very much indeed for providing me with the opportunity to attend these important events and meetings( International Publishers Association (IPA) Congress. Cape Town, South Africa, 12–14 June 2012 and Cape Town Book Fair, Cape Town, South Africa, 15–17 June 2012) all of which I found very valuable, both from an information and networking point of view.”

I expect as a result to be able to make informed contributions to discussions with professional colleagues about new developments, as well as putting people in touch with each other with a view to improving the long-term availability of books, reading in Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwean director and film producer, Stephen Chigorimbo, knows what to do to resuscitate Zimbabwean film industry. He does it by distributing African film productions to all corners of the world with the help of Afriwood, an audio-visual marketing and distribution company.

Chigorimbo set up Afriwood in 2010 capitalizing on almost 40 years of international experience in film and music industries. He is often part of international film events across the world, including FESPACO, film festival in Cannes and Input.

Soon, up to 300,000 Russian-speakers in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) will get a chance to experience Africa filmed by the continent’s talent. Explains Andy Kozlov, “In April, Afriwood partnered with the Kyiv-based Media Resources Management and will be in the Ukrainian capital this September as a seller at the 2012 Ukrainian Content Market. The International Images Film Festival for Women (IIFF) is the only annual women’s festival south of the Sahara and this year celebrates its 10th anniversary. The festival takes place from November 18 to 25 in Harare. The festival will be held at various venues around the city including Eastgate, National Art Gallery the Zimbabwe German Society, Gallery Delta and the Mannenburg in Harare.

Through the Human Rights, Artists Rights Promotion objective of the Culture Fund of Zimbabwe Trust, the Zimbabwe Music Rights Association(zimura) yesterday hosted a workshop in Bulawayo to capacitate stakeholders in the region on issues pertaining to their intellectual property rights.

The programme is part of an ongoing training initiative by the organization that seeks to empower artists on their rights in the music arena. The goal of this targeted training being to afford culture sector training and capacity building.
